History

Direct grant grammar school

It was a direct grant grammar school for girls, with the Brentwood School being a similar school for boys.

Comprehensive

It became a comprehensive in 1979.[3] In September 1999 the school became a specialist Arts College.

Academy

The school converted to academy status on 1 October 2012. The school continues to have arts as a specialism however.

Sports

The school has an active involvement in local and county-wise competitions.
