Basketball at the Commonwealth Games
Basketball was introduced to the Commonwealth Games in 2006 in Melbourne. It has been announced that Basketball will be a part of the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
History
Basketball at the Commonwealth Games was held for the first time in 2006 when the games were held in Melbourne. Australia won the first ever Commonwealth Games Gold Medal in both the men's and women's competitions while New Zealand's teams and England's teams walked away with Silver and Bronze Medals respectively. It was announced in 2011 that Basketball will return to the games at the 2018 Commonwealth Games held on the Gold Coast.
Although considered to be one of the strongest Basketball nations in the world, Canada has never entered a men's or women's team in the Commonwealth Games Basketball competitions.
