Barys Tasman
Barys Tasman (Belarusian: Барыс Тасман; Russian: Борис Тасман, Boris Tasman) (born 13 November 1954 in Minsk, Belarus), is one of the most respected sports writers of Belarusian journalism.[1][2]
Tasman graduated from the faculty of Geography at the Belarusian State University in 1980. Worked as a loader, worker of road equipment plant, assistant of the geodetic laboratory. From 1981 to 1994 he was working as a teacher of geography in several Minsk schools. His idea to create the Museum of astronautics (1987–1994) was realized at the Minsk school № 46.
From 1994 to 1998 he was working as a reporter of the first Belarusian independent sport newspaper Pressball. He also was an observer of the popular independent newspaper Svaboda in 1997, from 1999 to 2002 — chief of the sports departments of the Belorusskaya delovaya gazeta and of the Belorusskaya gazeta (2002). Wrote for the Russian newspaper Izvestia, Kurjer and Belarus&Business magazines, and others.
Starting 2002 he is a reporter of the Pressball newspaper, editor of the department of Olympic sports.[3]
Barys Tasman proved to be one of the most authoritative experts and analysts not only of Belarusian sport but the world sport as well. He is also known for his encyclopedic knowledge in the fields of sports history and statistics, capable to analyze all the sport events.
He predicted the success of Belarusian sport stars Max Mirnyi and Vladimir Voltchkov, the main sensation of 2004 Summer Olympics Yulia Nestsiarenka and others. He is the author of many journalist investigations that afterwards became the powerful incentives to state authorities decisions.
While working for the Belorusskaya delovaya gazeta Barys Tasman’s opinion columns on social-political topics received great resonance.
