Baniapukur Ballygung (Vidhan Sabha constituency)

Baniapukur Ballygunge was a constituency of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, used in the 1952 assembly election.[1] Baniapukur and Ballygunge were areas added to the Calcutta Corporation in 1889.[1] Baniapukur-Ballygunge was the sole two-member assembly seat in Calcutta.[2] One seat was reserved for Scheduled Castes, the other seat was unreserved.[2]

The seats were won by Jogesh Chandra Gupta and Pulin Behari Khatic, both candidates of the Indian National Congress.[3] Amongst the independent candidates in the fray were Jogendra Nath Mandal, a former Minister of Pakistan, and Dr. A.M.O. Ghani.[3][4]
