Baksan Neutrino Observatory

The Baksan Neutrino Observatory (BNO) is a scientific laboratory of INR RAS located in the Baksan River gorge in the Caucasus mountains in Russia. It started operations in 1977, becoming the first such observatory in the USSR.[1] It consists of the Baksan Underground Scintillation Telescope, located 300m below the surface, [2] a galliumgermanium neutrino telescope (the Soviet–American Gallium Experiment, SAGE) located 3,500m deep,[2] as well as a number of ground facilities.
