Avaneeswaram S R Vinu (Malayalam: ആവണീശ്വരം എസ് ആര്‍ വിനു) (born 10 June 1973) is a Carnatic violinist[1] from India.

Early life and background

Avaneeswaram S R Vinu was born to Avaneeswaram N. Ramachandran[2] who retired as the Principal of R. L. V. Music College in Thripunithura, Kerala and Sahithi Devi in Trivandrum, Kerala. His grand father Late Avaneeswaram K. Krishna Pillai was a renowned nagaswaram player. Vinu started learning violin from his father at the age of six who himself was a musician. After that he underwent training from the violinist Prof. Kilimanur Thyagarajan. Later, he underwent higher studies in violin from the famous Mysore M. Nagaraj from 1992 to 1997.

Musical career

Vinu is one of the most sought after violinists of carnatic music today.He has traveled extensively all over the world and performed with many leading musicians including Padmavibhushan Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna,[3] Madurai T. N. Seshagopalan, Aswathi Thirunal Rama Varma,[4][5] Sanjay Subrahmanyan, Padmabhushan T. V. Sankaranarayanan, Dr.N. Ramani, T. K. Govindarao, Neyyattinkara Vasudevan, Padmabhushan Dr. K. J. Yesudas, P. Unni Krishnan,[6]S. Sowmya, Prof. Parassala B. Ponnammal.

Vinu has performed many prestigious venues in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Singapore, Malaysia, UAE, Botswana and Qatar.

Awards and recognitions

Vinu is an 'A TOP' grade artiste of All India Radio[7] and Doordarsan.
Best violinist award from Madras Music Academy 2004.
Best violinist award from Madras Music Academy 2005.
Has been conferred with the honour of Sri Kanchipuram Asthana Vidwan in 2010.
Has been conferred with the honour of 'Sangeetha Rathna' from Sri Sathyasai seva Organisation, 2010.
He has been conferred with the honour of 'Youth Excellence Award' from Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyyer Trust, Chennai in 2012.
He has received the Senior Scholarship from Department of Culture, Government of India in 1998.
He has played on various cassettes and CDs including Charsur, Manorama audios, Intreco etc.

Personal life

Vinu is married to Dr. S. Aswathy Vinu, who is an A grade vocalist of the All India Radio. The couple has two kids, Gayathri Nandana and Gautham Sanker.
