The Asian American Action Fund (AAAF) is an American Democratic political action committee and 501(c)(4) non-profit organization founded in 1999. AAAF's goal is to increase the voice of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) in every level of local, state and federal government in the United States. Specifically, the AAAF addresses the under-representation of AAPIs by organizing campaign volunteers, campaign contributions, technical support, and logistics for both endorsed and un-endorsed candidates running for political office. The AAAF has endorsed candidates across the country. AAAF's officers, board of directors, advisory board, and honorary board are entirely volunteer efforts. AAAF has regional chapters in Northern California, Southern California, Chicago, Northern Virginia, and New York City as well as a Young professionals chapter.

AAAF has one paid staff and over 100 volunteers. AAAF receives financial support from foundations, corporations, individuals, and fundraisers. AAAF receives no government funds.

History

In October 2007, AAAF Board member Gautam Dutta started its blog. Its content leans progressive as does its parent organization.

On May 31, 2008, the DNC awarded the AAAF blogteam press credentials,[13] one of only two Asian American blogs along with Sepia Mutiny to receive the such.

On June 10, 2008, Kelly Hu was the emcee of the AAAF's annual fundraiser.[14][15][16]

On August 8, 2008, the Library of Congress recognized the AAAF Blog as an outstanding source of information on the internet during the 2008 Presidential election[17] and added the AAAF Blog to its Election 2008 Web Archive Collection.[18]

On May 5, 2010, the AAAF and Hyphen Magazine announced a cross-posting partnership.[19]

On November 17, 2011, the Philadelphia chapter held its inaugural event.[20]

Asian American Action Fund of Greater Chicago

The Asian American Action Fund of Greater Chicago's (AAAF-GC) mission is to encourage APA Democrats to participate in the political process, empower the APA community, and to increase APA representation in Chicago political life. In Chicago, APAs make up 5% of the total population but neither the City of Chicago nor its State and Federal agencies had any APA elected officials as of the 2011 election year. The AAAF-GC also supports non-APA candidates who support issues of concern to the APA community, identifies qualified Democratic candidates, gives financial and technical assistance, and builds a local network of activists, funders, and supporters.
