AllMusic | [1] |
In a contemporary Billboard review, As Your Mind Flies By was favourably described as "a mixture of hard driving rock and emotional tunes, both featuring good musical changes within each cut".[2] Jo-Ann Greene of AllMusic has retrospectively called the album a "swan song" of original Rare Bird and awarded As Your Mind Flies By four-and-a-half out of five.[1]
Despite favourable reception, the album did not chart in the United Kingdom, nor in the United States.
