Arun Kumar is a Member of Parliament in India. He represents the Jahanabad constituency in the Lok Sabha, which is the lower house of the Parliament of India. He won the seat in the Indian general election, 2014 as a Rashtriya Lok Samta Party candidate.[1] He is close to the present Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.[2]
Kumar has been a member of various parties and as of 2014 is Bihar State President of the Rashtriya Lok Samta Party. His father is Brijnandan Sharma, who represents Bihar Shikshak Sangh and he comes from the village of Maniyawan, 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) from Jehanabad.
Along with Anand Mohan Singh and Akhlaq Ahmed, Kumar had been sentenced to death in 2007 for his alleged part in the lynching of a Dalit district magistrate. The ruling in his case and that of Ahmed was overturned on appeal when it was determined that he had been present but not involved in the murder; Singh's sentence was reduced to life imprisonment.[3][4]
Kumar and a younger brother own Gyan Bharti, a chain of residential schools in Bihar. One of his four brothers is a Member of the Legislative Assembly, representing the Janata Dal (United) party.
