Early life
Anna Skrypka was born in Kharkov, Ukraine. While studying social sciences at the University of Kharkiv in Ukraine, her thesis was focused on the entertainment business and its impact on society. By the time she finished her education and obtained her PhD in social sciences, Skrypka was also working as an anchor at a local TV station and producing a yearly beauty pageant called “Miss Kharkiv” in her native city Kharkiv in Ukraine. The grand finale is held at the Liberty Square in Kharkiv (the biggest square in Europe). Miss Kharkiv was one of the most anticipated cultural events supported by Kharkiv Department of Culture and Tourism.
Career
In January 2011 she moved to the United States to study filmmaking. In January 2013, Skrypka obtained a Master of Fine Arts in Filmmaking from the New York Film Academy. Since then, her credits in the US include multiple feature films, commercials, music videos, web-series and numerous short films.[3] One of her first short films titled “John Bondage”, featuring actor Les Brandt (Days Of Our Lives, Six Feet Under, Pacific Blue) has been screened at multiple film festivals around the world, including at the prestigious Festival De Cannes Court M.trage (France). “At Last” is currently going through the festival circuit and won First Prize in the category “Fiction Of The Month” at the 12 Months Film Festival's December's competition.[4] The feature film “Waves”, produced by Skrypka and directed by Don Gerardo Frasco, had a wide release in the Philippines at the beginning of 2015 and was widely praised by the press.[5] The film’s lead star Baron Geisler has received numerous awards commending his remarkable talent in acting. Pilar Pilapil, who also stars in the film, is one of the most established and recognized actresses in the Philippines since 1967 until the present day. “Waves” has also became an important part of the historical preservation as being set and entirely shot at the location of the Palawan & Cebu island, as it is the last movie shot there before a storm destroyed the island in 2014. Skrypka and Frasco are currently working on their next feature set in the Philippines, which is due to start production at the beginning of 2017. In May 2013, Skrypka produced a short film called “The Pinhole Affect” that is led among others by Alessandra Torresani (famous for her lead role as the cylon Zoe Graystone in the TV-series Caprica), Ben Reed (American Sniper, Face Off) and Elena Satine (Revenge, Agents of Shield, Magic City). In November 2013, Skrypka worked with Chinese movie stars like Nicholas Tse and Yuanyuan Gao while managing the filming of the American part of the Chinese production “But Always”. In Autumn 2014 she worked on production of a horror film entitled “Appetites”, starring Bret Roberts a well known actor/singer in the indie world.
Skrypka is an active member of the Women In Film.
