Andys Skordis

Andys Skordis (born in Nicosia, 24 August 1983) is a Cypriot composer. Andys Skordis studied Composition and Film Scoring at Berklee College of music, graduating in 2007 with Magna Cum Laude. He followed his postgraduate studies in Composition at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, studying with Richard Ayres and Wim Henderickx, graduating in 2011 with Zeer Goed. Andys has also studied Carnatic music for 5 years with Dr. Rafael Reina at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Javanese gamelan with Elsje Plantema and Balinese gamelan at Indonesian Institute of the Arts, Denpasar.

Since 2011 Andys Skordis main occupation is composing music, where he composed works like Ou...Patsia...Ra (opera), E...SOU...A (oratorio for Balinese Gamelan and Choir), Ο Ιππής... (ballet for symphony orchestra) and many more. Andys worked with ensembles such as Vocaallaab, ASKO|Schoenberg, Residentie Orkest, Orkest De Ereprijs, Nieuw Ensemble, International Ensemble Modern Academy, and Mousique Nouvelles.

In 2012 his piece The deeper you go... was awarded the BUMA Toonzetters Prize, naming it the most significant Dutch composition of that year, and his ballet O Ιππής... was awarded the first prize at a competition held by Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. In the meantime he received other prizes, artistic subsidies and scholarships from The Netherlands, Cyprus, Iceland and Indonesia.

Besides composing Andys plays guitar, traditional percussion and gamelan with several bands touring in Europe and Asia. At the moment he lives in The Netherlands.
