Ali Khaliqhi (born 1970, in Hamadan; a city of Iran ) is a carpet designer with over 30 years of experience in the fields of designing, manufacturing, architecture and art.
His father was originally from Tabriz and his mother is from Tehran, because of his father job they had to move to several cities of Iran, it caused him to become familiar with History of different cities and tradition Carpet.
Earlier career
Ali was from first group of the students who studied Carpet in university 32 years ago; With his creativity and great talent ; He started his professional Career when he was only 18 years old;as a designer and head of design department in Iran Carpet Co (a governmental organization); A career that extended to Order Manager as well for 16 years.
Among this, Ali Khalighi got great opportunities to study and Visit all part of carpet areas in Iran, he was directly involved to all process of Producing carpet. he also discovered the world of Carpet's business when he was Order manager. Later he established his own company Gerreh Co in 2007.
Since beginning; beside of his professional career Ali was teaching as Professor of several Art universities in Iran.
Ali is Professor in Art tehran university, Sistan and Baluchistan University of Art and Architecture, Kerman University, Alzahra University, Sureh University, Payam Noor University, Training center of Imam KHomeini, Khorram Abad University
He is also responsible as :
- Head of Scientific Committee of Carpet Design Olympiad for 8th years[1]
- Head of Iran Carpet Scientific Association since 2016
- Member of Evaluation committee of Artists In Iranian research institute for cultural heritage & tourism
- Member of Valuable Carpet Registration committee of Iran
Carpet Design & Manufacture
Ali designed more than 1.500 carpets Before start his own Business in Gerreh Co. He is Famous as youngest successful designer who brought many new changes and items besides of traditional Persian motifs while it kept harmony in design and colors. He has rich knowledge of Natural coloring of yarns that helped him in several projects.
He designed and manufactured 500 Sqm Carpet For Al Alam palace; 60 Density in red background, Design & Manufacture 6.000 Sqm Carpet in 110 pieces, 2*3, 5.000 Sqm Carpet in Different sizes for Samim Co in Japan.
Large Scale handmade Carpets
1- Mohammed Al Ameen Mosque Carpet
Ali Khalighi with the name of his own company has recently completed the world's third largest carpet for Mohammad Al Amin Mosque in Muscat Oman. Third largest carpet of the world has been woven in Neishaboor in Khorasan Razavi province of Iran. More than 400 experts and 4000 fingers have been worked on this project for more than 2 years in about 200,0000 hours. This Carpet is 2400 Sqm. All process include procuring the raw materials, weaving, designing, coloring the yarns, and installation of carpet done by high knowledge of art and engineering considerations. The raw materials are procured from the best cottons and wools from Iran, New Zealand and Italy. The carpet is notable for its brightly colored background and stable of wool.
2- Sheikh Zayed Mosque[2] Carpet[3]
Ali Designed largest carpet in the world[4] which is in Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dubai. This carpet measures 5,627 m2 (60,570 sq ft), and was made by around 1,200-1,300 carpet knotters. The weight of this carpet is 35 ton and is predominantly made from wool (originating from New Zealand and Iran). There are 2,268,000,000 knots within the carpet and it took approximately two years to complete. the design took approximately 8 months, the knotting 12 months and the remaining time to transport, trim and weave the pieces together. The final single piece carpet is 5,700 square meters, about 70% being wool and the rest of 30% is cotton.[5]
3- - Grand Mosque of Sultan Qhaboos Carpet
Ali Khaliqi designed Masterpieces of Carpets as second largest Carpet of the world for Grand Mosque of Sultan Qhaboos in Oman. The carpet measures over 70 × 60 meters, and covers the 4,343 square meter area of the praying hall.[6]
Education
Ali got BA form Art university in Tehran (Carpet) in 1990. Later, Culture and Islamic ministry of Iran gave him First Class Degree
