Akira Koike (小池 晃 Koike Akira, born June 9, 1960) is a Japanese politician, who is the secretariat head and vice chair of the Japanese Communist Party. He also serves as a member of the House of Councillors for the party.[1]
As well as a politician, Koike is a physician, specializing in gastroenterology, and is a member of the Japanese Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War.
Koike was a candidate in the 2011 gubernatorial election in Tokyo,[2] but was defeated by incumbent Shintaro Ishihara who won his fourth term.
