Akhtar Hossain Choudhury Memorial Degree College
Akhtar Hossain Choudhury Memorial Degree College (AHCMC) (Bengali: আখতার হোসেন চৌধুরী মেমোরিয়াল ডিগ্রী কলেজ) is a degree college situated in Mirzaganj Upazila, Patuakhali District, Bangladesh. It was established in 2002.[1] The college provides education in Bengali medium under the national curriculum. The college has 2,000 students, 35 teachers, and 25 other staff. Gazi Bazlur Rhaman is the principle of the college.
History
AHCMC was set up on an area of about 5 acres at Kanthaltali in Madhabkhali Union under Patukhali district. Founder of this college is Air vice-marshal Altaf Hossain Chowdhury. Akhtar is his son who died unexpectedly and suddenly. So he was naming this college as his son name.
Campus
This college is in a suburban area and natural beauty of this college is very charming. Construction style of this college buildings are Taj Mahal(India)shape. There are separate boys and girls hostel and healthy dining system for them. There is a lake which cover one third of the college and beside the lake, lots of flower and fruits are planted. This college has awarded several times for its natural beauty. There are rare collections of trees also and enhance beauty of the college.
Education
Education system of this college is very supportive and free from politics. Teachers are available for the students need and there are also teachers dormitory. AHCMC provides higher secondary and BA (degree) in Bangla medium under national curriculum. This college is follow national curriculum. Students can elect one of three major groups - science, humanities and business studies. Computer science, agriculture and home economics are optional subjects for higher secondary students.
Library
The college has a rich library contain 5000 volumes. Four books checked out at a time for seven days. This library is open during and after (5:00 PM) academic hours.
Uniform
All students wear college uniform during college time.
Boys-for the boys-sky color shirt and black pant. In the Winter they put sky color jacket.
Girls-for the girls-black salower,black scarf and sky color kamiz with sky color belt.Girls also put sky color jacket in the Winter.
Co Curricular and Extra Curricular activities
There are some clubs where co-curriculum activities held. Sports club, arts club and social welfare club. AHCMC provides internet connected computer lab for its students. There is a college magazine also. Every year students of this college have participated 'Inter division debate competition' and several times they are champion. The college organizes an annual function on 21 February to observe the International Mother Language Day. It also holds program on the occasion of Pohela Boishakh, Victory Day and Independence Day (Bangladesh).
